Oasis Family Centre Ethos and Values

Our ethos is our motivation for all our work. The ethos Oasis Family Centre (OFC) project of the Scarborough Christian Fellowship (SCF) which is a local branch of the nation wide Elim Foursquare Gospel Alliance (EFGA).

Our ethos is to work together to extend the churches mission and care in the community by living out a lifestyle of love, truth, justice, mercy and forgiveness, according the life and teaching of Jesus Christ. We are inspired by Christ’s message, life and example through which God’s unconditional love for all people is expressed.

While this ethos is given life through our relationships, the way we work together and behave with one another, are a demonstration and authentication of our ethos. It is through these relationships with each other and with those whom we seek to serve, that we practice our ethos.

Our ethos or motivation, and therefore our relationships, are rooted in our trust in God’s love which compels us to serve others, putting their needs first. When we work together it is this faith which directs and influences our internal relationships as well as our work with those who the Oasis Family Centre project of SCF is seeking to serve.

In this way, the Oasis Family Centre project of SCF operates on the understanding that our activities are simply an outworking of values. There is an essential and indissoluble link between the private life and the public face of the Oasis Family Centre project of SCF. We feel the link between who we are and what we do is inseparable.

Statement of Values

Integrity

As a church, Scarborough Christian Fellowship believes that it’s purpose is to extend the Kingdom of God on earth and convey its values through its integrity, diversity, authenticity, transparency, accountability, servanthood and trustworthyness towards the community it is placed in. We believe that our mission and purpose are indissolubly linked with how we operate as an organisation and as individuals. We believe the values which we promote for ourselves as an organisation, should be matched by those which we practice when relating to others. We believe the link between who we are and what we do cannot be separated.

Diversity

We believe that we have a duty to maintain our Christian distinctiveness but at the same time embrace the values of inclusivity, welcoming those from other faiths as well as those with no faith at all.

Authenticity

The love and care with which we serve others should be authenticated by the same love and care which we have for each other. The Oasis Family Centre project of the Scarborough Christian Fellowship believes that its purpose flows out of its desire to work towards the same for ourselves as individuals, as well as an organisation.

Transparency

We believe that we should be open and transparent about our link between our values and our mission in matters of publicity, fundraising, employment, community involvement and our place in society.

Accountability

We believe that all we have and would desire to be, comes from God and that therefore we should exercise wisdom, integrity and responsibility in using all resources entrusted to us.

Servant Leadership

We believe in working for the common good through partnerships with the local community, other Christian Churches and organisations in the voluntary, statutory and private sectors. In particular, we seek to network, encourage, serve and build up other bodies, recognising and supporting their distinctive roles within our local community.

Trustworthiness

In a world where trust has been eroded, we believe we should be agents of change, building trust instead of laying blame. As an organisation and as individuals we desire to demonstrate a new sense of trustworthyness.

Tolerance

We believe that a tolerant society is one in which people of different opinions can live together in peace. In working together to deliver the work of the Oasis Family Centre project of the Scarborough Christian Fellowship, we want to endeavour at all times to trust one another, being patient and forbearing. We aim to work at paying attention to the way we speak to one another, aiming to listen well, even when it is uncomfortable to do so, being able to confront difficulties carefully and with compassion.

Personal Development

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to develop and realise their potential and as a result make a full contribution to society in general. We believe this will transform the world in which we live and fulfil the Oasis Family Centre project of the Scarborough Christian Fellowship’s overall vision to "bring hope to a new generation".
